Google My Business – What Is It and How Can It Help Me?

You’ve seen it a thousands times on a Google search. Next time you search for a restaurant or a local business, (especially on mobile), you’ll notice a small map with a few pins put on the spot of the business address – This is Google My Business.

Lets face it, all businesses today need targeted visibility on Google. Smart business owners know this requires optimizing their website, hiring a reputable SEO agency, maybe running some Google Ads, etc. What most people don’t know is that there’s a third entity that also needs optimizing: their Google My Business listing! (GMB) Officially known as your Google Business Profile, this powerful listing is a dynamic snapshot of your business which highlights your best features and enables potential customers to quickly learn about, find and engage with you, usually right from their smart phones. GMB is always the first content to pop up on searches, usually directly below ads. 90% of folks searching for local and national companies click the information found in the GMB profile, 90%!

And yet, despite the 168 billion searches performed on Google each month, a study showed the typical Business Profile only averages 1,220 views during that same period (that’s 0.00000074%!). Even worse, only 57 actions are taken from those 1,220 views. That’s less than 4%.

Often times, people go directly to Google My Business for local searches. For instance, what happens when I search “drug rehab Scottsdale?”

As you can see above, our client Arizona Addiction Recovery Center is at the top spot within the search results. Imagine all the success your rehab / business could see if you had this top spot! Our clients are seeing great results when they hire Cohn Media to optimizing their local search through GMB.

How Do You Optimize a GMB Page?

The objective of any business in creating GMB listings is to “get into the local pack.” The local pack is what’s referred to as the top three business listings. Google will always display the top 3 business listings for any location-based search. You can see in the example below that although Arizona Addiction Recovery Center is at the top of the search result, there’s still two underneath it.

There will always be 3. If you are in that top three, that means you will be displayed. Meaning, you are in the local pack. Also meaning your going to get that lead or phone call over all your competitors, and grow your revenue! To get into the local pack requires strong SEO tactics and strategic keyword placement in your profile content – as well as a couple secret moves only our clients get 😉

Cohn Media is here to assist you and help you dominate not just on organic Google searches, but your Google My Business profile as well.
